Today's Santos de Cartier is recognised by its square case and visible screws. Our watchmaker opens every watch and measures its rate on a timegrapher. We match the serial and reference numbers with the papers, check that the dial, hands and bezel are original, and measure the case edges to see whether the watch has been over-polished. You get the result in writing.
Buying a used Cartier Santos – what to check
- Bezel screws: the visible screws are the signature of the Santos. Check that none are missing, scratched by a tool or replaced.
- Brushed and polished surfaces: the case and bracelet mix both. Heavy polishing removes the brushing and blurs the edges.
